Church Information

It is our goal to impact our community in a positive way through relevant teaching, sincere worship, honest friendships, prayer, and expressions of compassion. There is a lot happening in our parish. We hope that this information will bring you up to date on some of the parish groups and their varied activities.

A new Mass schedule will begin starting April 15, 2007

At Sacred Heart, Early
On the uneven month's of the year (January, March, May, July, September, November) Saturday evening Mass will be a 5:30 PM, Sunday Mass will be at 8:00 AM.
The even month's of the year (February, April, June, August, October, December)
NO Saturday evening Mass - Sunday Mass will be at 10:00AM.

At St. Joseph, Schaller
On the even month's of the year (February, April, June, August, October, December) Saturday evening Mass will be at 5:30 PM-Sunday Mass at 8:00AM.
The uneven month's of the year(January, March, May, July, September, November)
NO Saturday evening Mass - Sunday Mass will be at 10:00AM.

Parish Organizations

  • Parish Council - This service opportunity is for persons willing to attend bi-monthly meetings and sometimes to also serve on one of several parish committees. Parish affairs, planning, and supervision of various parish services and projects.

  • Finance Committee - This is a group of individuals who meet monthly and are responsible for the supervision of parish finances, budgets, investments and financial planning.

  • Religious Education Board - This group supervises the Religious Education Program for the youth of the parish. This committee plans and evaluates the program and advises concerning policies. Meetings are held during the school year as needed.

  • Building and Grounds - for persons with interest in the physical plant. This committee evaluates needs, does planning for improvements and repairs, and often supervises or is directly involved with improvements. Meetings are held as needed.

  • Liturgy - this important committee plans for our liturgical celebrations. Anyone interested in liturgy, music, art and environment, or any other aspects are encouraged to become involved here. Meetings are held approximately every 2 months.

  • Peace and Justice - this group responds to the human needs of the parish and the community, meet monthly.

  • Catholic Daughters - for women of any age, this organization gathers monthly for Mass, a meeting, and social activity. This group supports the work and role of women and mothers in the Church and promotes various religious and social causes, e.g., projects for fighting pornography, morality in the media, service to newborns, missions, etc.

  • Knights of Columbus - a service organization of Catholic men. This organization holds monthly meetings in Storm Lake. The Knights are involved with various social and charitable causes, including raising money for the mentally challenged, promoting vocations, etc.

  • Adopt-A-Flowerbed - volunteers to provide and care for the shrine and flowerbeds on parish and school grounds.

  • Prayer Line - a telephone tree for particular prayer requests.

  • Arts and Environment - this group decorates the church environment for parish liturgies.

  • Parish Nurses - we would like to form a parish service organization to provide health and wellness education, regular visits to seniors living alone, and other projects to promote and maintain good health. This is open to nurses and nurses' aides.

  • Guild - all women and men of the parish are members of the guild. This group meets the 1st Wed. of the month. Organizes funeral dinners, help with decorating of the church, assist with cleaning of church, rectory, parish center, provide food for Diocesan Meetings.

Faith Sharing Opportunities

Praying Hands
  • Religious Education Teachers - these individuals serve as instructors for our young people, grades K - 12.

  • Substitute Teachers - persons would fill in occasionally when the regular religious education teacher cannot be there.

  • Chaperone for Youth Activities - at various times during the year there is a need for volunteers to help supervise young people for various projects, e.g., Diocesan Youth Rally, trips, service projects, etc.

  • Adults to work with youth - for adults and young adults interested in working on a regular basis with our youth group, attending their meetings, serving as mentors to the Youth Group.

  • Eucharistic Adoration - willing to commit to a regular prayer time on Wednesday each week.

  • Sponsor Couples - there is a need for married couples willing to be trained to work with couples preparing for marriage.

  • Welcome Your Child - for individuals willing to be trained to work with the pastor and parents presenting their children for Baptism. This involves three ares of emphasis for parents of children from the birth of their child through pre-school age.

  • Cluster Committee - for persons interested in working with other people from our "cluster." This will involve planning, looking for opportunities to work together, etc.

  • Nursing Home, Hospital and Home Visits - for persons willing to visit parishioners on a more or less regular basis.

  • Communion to Shut - Ins - for commissioned Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist willing to take Commuion to the sick in their own homes and sometimes to hospitals and nursing homes. This is usually done after the morning Mass on Sundays. These volunteers would be scheduled for service once every 2-3 months.

Calling for AssistanceWe want you to be able to confide in a person who has the professional training and experience to either offer immediate help or refer you to the person who can help.

Our ministry is available to adults, children, adolescents, singles, couples, and families, to assist all your relational and emotional needs.
