Where do we even begin? Perhaps, thanks to God for watching over all of us! Thanks also for the meals, snacks, tractors, loaders, chain saws, hugs, support and phone calls following the tornado devastation this past weekend. It's amazing how quickly something like that can make you appreciate the real things in life -------like the fact that no one was hurt or killed. . . . .and how about "those darn kids!!! from our local school districts! WOW!!!

The flowers on the alter were given in loving memory of Brian Blass and Jolene Perryman by their mother, Marlene Nelson.

April 13, 2011: We offer thanks for all the school kids who were bused to the farms that needed help picking up debris from their fields. From the Sioux City Journal: Shirley Phillips, Sac County's economic development director, said approximately 1,300 people participated in the cleanup. Of those, about 925 were students from East Sac County schools, Galva-Holstein and Schaller-Crestland. The National Weather Service reports that four tornadoes touched down in Sac County April 9, 2011, causing severe damage to the city of Early and blasting pieces of decimated farmsteads into surrounding fields.

The debris had the potential to delay farmers from planting, Phillips said, so the schools allowed students in fifth through twelfth grades to help clear them out. Students fanned across the fields in large groups, mostly in the Nemaha and Early areas, picking up items and placing them in piles to be hauled away by heavy equipment.

"People that had their farmsteads blown apart were sincerely grateful for the help they received," Phillips said. "They said there was no way they could clean up all of that by themselves." Sac County's beef and pork producers cooked lunch for the 1,400 students and other volunteers at the Nemaha fire station.

February 8, 2011:
Forwarded from friends of Penny Sievers...

As many of you know, Penny Sievers (of Newell) has been at battle with the cancer for a very long time.   Friends and family tell us  Penny may be in the last days of this battle.  Most of us also know the many expenses associated with the kind of health care Penny has been receiving.  For that reason, we are asking you to help Penny and her son, Cory, defray these expenses along with his travel costs.  Cory has also experienced some loss of income because he has taken off work for the past few months to be by his mom's side.

Penny has helped so many over the years with her positive attitude and through her Do Not Worry Foundation gifts.  It's now time for us to help her.

Because time is of the essence, we are asking you to send a card or note along with a check directly to Penny.  Please makes checks out to Cory Sievers and mail to:
Penny Sievers
321 Fulton Street
Newell, IA  50568

We also ask that you forward this email to anyone you think might wish to help Penny. And, let's remember to keep Penny, Cory and her entire family in our thoughts and prayers.  Thank you so much!
