Christmas Scenes 2009
The children presented their Christmas program during the church service on
December 20, 2009. To start the program, Martin Wedeking read the Christmas Story from the bible.
Music was furnished by Hallie Mentzer with a piano solo, then a couple of piano duets were performed by Hallie and Brenda Mentzer.
Each child was dressed as an animal in the stable in Bethlehem where the baby
Jesus was born. Represented were a cow, Donkey, Goat, Mule, and two chickens.
While the animals at first resented their sleep being disturbed by the arrival
of Mary and Joseph, the Donkey who brought them explained Mary and Joseph had come from a
long ways away to be counted.
The Donkey also explained that Mary was with child and would soon deliver the
little child. After the birth, they observed a halo around the baby Jesus and
realized they were in the presence of a Holy Baby boy.
All of the animals had speaking parts including the youngest chickens.
Shepherds and their sheep followed the star over the stable to find the Baby
Jesus where they blessed him.

Songs
were sung in jubilation of the arrival of the Baby Jesus.

There was even a visit from Santa who greeted the children and gave all the
congregation candy canes.
A celebration to honor the birthday of Baby Jesus was held in the fellowship
hall in the basement immediately following the service.

The Nemaha United Methodist Church is festive with many elaborate decorations, most of which were installed by Martin Wedeking.

The large Christmas tree graces the choir chancel.
Next to the tree is the mitten and scarf tree displaying donations by the
members. These mittens, gloves, scarves and other winter wear will be donated to
needy families. > >
Shown below are the poinsettias purchased in memory of family members. They are displayed
throughout the Christmas season at the front of the church. You may see the list
of names in the "Concerns and Blessings" page for December 13, 2009.
The nativity scene was again placed on the altar. A stable scene is set
outside near the front entrance to the church.

Wreaths are placed on the walls with greenery and red bows on the pews. The
front of the church was decorated with wreaths on each side of the door. A
recent snowfall added a classic look to the view.
