Christmas Scenes 2008

The church was beautifully decorated with greenery and red bows on the pews, walls and railings, outside and inside nativity scenes, with a lovely lighted tree in the choir loft.

God Sent Us a Savior

If our greatest need had been information,
God would have sent us an educator.

If our greatest need had been technology,
God would have sent us a scientist.

If our greatest need had been money,
God would have sent us an economist.

If our greatest need had been pleasure,
God would have sent us an entertainer.

But our greatest need was forgiveness,
So God sent us a Savior.

Christmas Concert in Russ and Liz Davis's Barn
December 13, 2008

Hi all,
We held the first of two Christmas concerts in our barn last night, followed by a soup supper at the church. The church choir "leftovers" from four local churches make up the group called the Community Crooners. We don't sound great but we sure love to get together for Christmas and Easter. I took these three pictures as we were rehearsing or going out to rehearse.

The second song in the score we used this year was titled "Look What's Happening in the Barn" so, it seemed appropriate to have at least one show in our barn (which has been used four times prior for similar events). The temp was 45 degrees yesterday so it was very comfortable. Good thing that today's performance is in the Early Lutheran church because it's now 4 degrees with a 30mph west wind.

One of the Early Lutheran members graciously brought over their Nativity scene for affect during the concert and one hour after she brought it over it was reported stolen ! by some good intentioned citizen from Early.

Good thing that all got sorted out before the concert or I might have been in the klink at showtime!

Russ

Pastor Carl and LuAnn Benge's Open House

The members of the Nemaha and Varina United Methodist Churches were invited to an Open House on Sunday Sept. 2nd, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. at Pastor Carl and LuAnn Benge's rural home. Everyone brought a side dish of their choice and meat was provided.

September 16, 2007: The congregation thanks Carl, LuAnn and family for the great potluck at their place over Labor Day weekend!! There was great food, of course, but also a time to meet members from the Varina Church and time to visit with each other!!

The guests added their side dishes to the buffet table while the meat was being grilled in the background.

There was ample time for people to circulate and meet the other church members.

Seating was available on the lawn with many having brought their own lawn chairs. There was plenty of room for the guests to park their vehicles in the nicely landscaped farmyard.

Shown above - LuAnn is enjoying a light note in the conversation.

As the youngest member of the group. Lydia  received plenty of attention including from her own father Pastor Carl. Boy is that hot dog good!

The day came to a close near dusk as the guests headed home after a lovely day of visiting. The weather was mild and the surroundings were charming.

After the crowd thinned out, the famiiy started gathering their members together including Lydia who enjoyed some quiet time in her playpen. It seems in these busy times that there are not near enough social gatherings where people can just get together for food and conversation. So nice that Carl and LuAnn welcomed members of both churches to the parsonage for their open house.
