Pastor Carl Benge is the Pastor of the Nemaha and Varina United Methodist Churches.

Pastor Carl Benge

Education: Graduated from University of Dubuque 1991. Attended University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in the Pastoral Licensing Program. Currently attending the North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD.

Family: Wife - Luann, Daughters Kaitlin, Sarah, and Lydia. Also provided a home for Luann's sister Brittani.

Positions: Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, Iowa 2004 - 2005. Early and Nemaha United Methodist Churches 2006 - 2007. Nemaha and Varina United Methodist Churches 2007 - Present.

Hobbies: Golf; Living History (re-enactment); WWI Airplanes (View restored airplanes, then duplicates models on computer).

Newsletter June 26, 2011 • The Pastor's Post

Hello Everyone! It has been a long time since I have written any sort of newsletter, however, I am excited to get this one out in light of our upcoming quasquicentennial. Yes, Nemaha United Methodist Church is 125 years old and a bit smaller than it was in the "good ol' days" but still active in ministry.

Nemaha has a great tradition of being a teaching church in the state of Iowa as well as the home church to two pastors, including one United Methodist bishop--retired Bishop Dale Whilte, who currently lives in Connecticut. This past year we celebrated the continuation of this legacy of pastors by declaring my wife Luann a candidate for Ministry in this past charge conference. Luann will mark the third pastor and the first woman pastor to come out of Nemaha.

Nemaha has also taken the opportunity over the past couple of years to redefine what it means to be the church. Are we a church within a Mighty Fortress? Or are we a Mighty Church in ministry to the town of Nemaha and surrounding Community?

Anyway, I look forward to seeing and hearing from you this coming August at our upcoming celebration.
