A small house on 3rd street that has sat for years behind the old bank building in Nemaha was sold to a farmer who wanted to place it on one of his farms. The preliminary preparations were hardly noticeable - some hedges cut away and snow pushed back. But the activity speeded up when some large equipment showed up early in the day on March 8th.

It only took a couple of hours before the house was lifted off the foundation.

The rest of the day was spent sliding the house sideways, off the foundation and onto wheels.

By 9:00 am on the next morning, March 9, 2007, the house came around the corner and headed west on Main Street. A worker held the electrical wires up while the house slowly turned barely missing the stop sign. Last seen, it was headed north on M50.

House History

Emma Sanders (Mrs.Lyle) lived in the house for many years through the 1970s and beyond. Boyd Sanders, Emma and Lyle's son, rented it out after both Lyle and Emma were gone. Eventually a young couple got a bank loan and purchased it from Boyd in the 1990s. But they lost it to their bank and it sat vacant for some time. It was then purchased for salvage by a neighbor who wanted the ground and a local farmer had the house moved out of Nemaha March 9th, 2007.
