Maintenance

As historic buildings age they present special challenges to their owners. Decades of exposure to the weather, a settling foundation and wear and tear not only affect the appearance of a building but can also compromise its structural integrity. A comprehensive maintenance plan that addresses the special requirements of older buildings is crucial in preserving its appearance and preventing damage that can lead to costly structural repairs.

After consulting with you and reviewing your information HDC will develop a maintenance plan tailored to meet the specific needs of your historic home or business. Maintenance plans include recommendations, a maintenance schedule and step by step instructions showing you what to do, how to do it and when. A plan can include instructions for the maintenance of windows and doors, repair of cracking plaster on walls and ceilings, care of the finish on molding, millwork and iron ornaments and recommendations for painting.

If you would like HDC to prepare a maintenance plan or you have a specific question about the care of your historic property, click on the Getting Started button and fill out the form or click on the Contact Us button and send an email.
