UMYF members paired up and wrote down everything they
complain about
on adding machine paper. Then they were wrapped up in “their
complaints.”
After being wrapped up for a bit, they broke free!

The MYF met on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, at 7:00 pm. Each member brought an ornament for the tree and also wrote on a piece paper a gift they would give to the baby Jesus. These were hung on the tree as well. The rest of the evening was spent joining in on a little competition. Plunger ball, Noodle relay race and Bubble Gum Surprise race were enjoyed by all.

What’s the matter, Bentley?

Go, Austin!

The MYF met on Wednesday, November 19th, at 6:30. After going around town and collecting goods for the food pantry, we came back to the church for a short devotion. It was on serving others and focused on the scripture from John 13 where Jesus’ washes the disciples’ feet. We learned that to be a good leader, we need to serve others.

The MYF met on Wednesday, October 15, at 7:00. The meeting started out with the members choosing a dessert from 5 choices without touching or tasting any of them. All the choices looked okay but only one was truly good. After choices were made, the members had to taste. Several were stuck having to try vanilla pudding (mayonnaise), strawberries and cream (strawberries with mayonnaise), berry smoothie (ketchup & milk) or cookie sandwiches (cookies made with lots of salt and pepper with sour cream in the middle). Some, however, chose the delicious brownies.
The Point: There are many choices of how to live your life and what gods to follow, but only one is real: Jesus. We also taught that you don't have to taste everything under the sun to know when you have the real answer...the kid who picked the brownies KNOWS he's right without tasting the other gross stuff.
Then the group watched a clip from the movie Transformers where Sam and Mickaela had to choose whether to get into the car or not. In small groups, we discussed choosing Christ everyday and looked at the scripture from Matthew where Jesus asked Andrew and Peter to put down their nets and follow Him. They did. So, what nets do we have to put down in order to follow Christ? And, do we have enough guts to get into the car?
After the meeting, we moved flamingos from Darwin and Betty Schmidt’s yard to Chuck and Lisa Struchen’s. Who will be next?

The MYF met on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:00. Steven started the meeting with a prayer for those members who were not with us and for the safety of farmers in the fields. Ashley called roll call with the question being “Tell about something you were scared to do, but you did it anyway and it turned out to be a good thing.”
Youth were separated into two teams and were told to build the highest tower they could out of 20 paper cups. One of the teams, however, had to stay behind a line 4 feet back from the cups. It was decided, of course, that it is a lot easier to build a tower if you are right there and not standing back 4 feet.
Everyone watched a music video next about surfing. We all discussed if it looked fun or scary and what kind of dangers there were associated with it.
The lesson tying both of these activities together was about missions. The scripture was from Matthew 28: 16-20….The Great Commission. Jesus tells us to GO and make disciples of others. GO-ing might be hard and take us out of our comfort zone. But, the good news is being mission-minded isn’t about distance. We can be disciples right here in Early, in our church and in our school.

The MYF met on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00. Once everyone arrived at the church, the group drove out to the Wissink’s for a surprise campfire. Smore’s were enjoyed by all with the roll call discussion being how God has worked in each person’s life over the last week.
Robin, Dawn and Tonia told the story from I Kings 18 about Elijah and how he demonstrated God’s power and might by taking on the prophets of the idol god, Baal. While Baal did nothing in response to his prophets’ self-mutilation rituals and prayers to ignite an animal sacrifice with fire; God ignited an animal sacrifice, alter and trench full of water around the alter in response to Elijah’s prayers even though the sacrifice had been soaked with 4 jars of water! After this, the Israelites followed God and God ended the 3-year drought in the land. We discussed how this shows God’s power and might but also His love and grace. The group also discussed reasons we are convinced that God is at work in our lives.
Our meeting ended with each person being given a water-soaked stick. Each person was to think and pray in silence for a few minutes about God’s power and might and His love and grace. Then, everyone put their stick in the fire and saw it ignited!

The MYF met on Wednesday, September 10 at 7:00. Sixteen
members were in attendance. After a short scavenger hunt in the church, the
group looked at Matthew 26 and John 21 and the story of Peter. The group
discussed how Peter loved Jesus and wanted to please Him but felt a failure
after denying Jesus three times. However, Jesus’ love for Peter (and His love
for us) is never failing and fiercely powerful. We can never do anything to
make God un-love us. It’s just not possible! Peter went on to become the
leader of the church and served God until his earthly death.
After lunch, the group voted on officers for 2008-2009.
President: Steven Mason
VP: Ray Wedeking
Secretary: Ashley Struchenn
