Meeting Dates

1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 - 8:30

Wednesday February 1, 2012 7:00 - 8:30
Wednesday February 15, 2012 7:00 - 8:30

UMYF is a group of 7th-12th grade students who get together during the school year at the United Methodist Church in Early. They have supervised meetings by adult leaders Mr. and Mrs. Wissink and Mr. and Mrs. Jodi Bihrer.

The group is open to all denominations and they usually meet at least every other Wednesday during the school year. The group really has a lot of fun and the leaders do a great job with the kids.

At right the kids are playing a game trying to eat a doughnut off a string. This is just a small example of the fun activities available for the kids.

Mark your calendars for this winter 2012 if you are in 7th-12th grade and interested in having fun and learning about God.

On Sunday, October 30, the UMYF left at 10:00 am to work with Joppa in Des Moines to reach out to the homeless. Below shows them making sack lunches for the homeless.

SATURDAY, OCT. 29:   UMYF Sleep Out.  We work to experience what the homeless experience on a daily basis.  Along with the box, we highly recommend lots of blankets and sleeping bags to keep warm!  We also want everyone to decorate their box as creatively as possible.  We will have awards for most creatively decorated box!

News for UMYFYouth News

Sept. 11, 2011 Bulletin: The UMYF did a mailing fundraiser.  Letters were sent to family and friends of each UMYF member asking for donations to help support the activities that the UMYF does during the year.  This will be in place of the usual sales fundraiser that is done in the fall.  If you did not receive a letter in the mail, you can still support the church youth activities.   Donations of any size are always welcome.  Checks can be written to Early UMYF and can be given to Jodi, Kristi, Dennis or Robin.  Thank you!"

They are making plans to continue mission work with JOPPA, a non-profit organization reaching unsheltered people in unique ways. Operating entirely on private donations from individuals, families, churches and other organizations, JOPPA serves hundreds of homeless people.  They create awareness and educate people and organizations about the causes of homelessness and about issues affecting our local homeless community. The UMYF would like to continue participating in this project on a quarterly basis.  They invite anyone who is interested to come along and share this experience with them.  Please contact one of the UMYF leaders if you are interested:  Dennis & Robin Wissink, and Jodi & Kristi Bihrer.
