 Friends,
As most of you know, Saturday night several of our youth will be
experiencing - in a small way - the everyday life of a homeless
person as they sleep outside with nothing but blankets, sleeping
bags and a cardboard box. We ask that you pray for these young
people as they open not only their own eyes to this cruel reality
but all of our eyes. The next day, after church, many of them will
be traveling to Des Moines to work with Joppa - reaching out to the
homeless in Des Moines. We ask that you prepare their hearts and
their minds for what they will see and experience. For, as you can
imagine, many of the stories we hear are very sad.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was so
generous during our "mailing fundraiser" this fall. We raised close
to $2,000 which will greatly help to offset the costs of the many
activities we have planned throughout the year. For that reason, we
are not asking for food donations for this trip to Joppa. The UMYF
members will be preparing sack lunches to bring to the homeless this
weekend and purchasing the supplies needed for this will be made
possible through the generosity you have already shown.

Friends,
We raise Jane and Jack Hogue in our prayers upon the death of Jane's
father, Marvin Whitham, yesterday. Please see this note from Jane:
Journey's End...Dad passed away Thursday
evening following his battle with cancer. I can't tell you how much we
will miss him at the gardens in the seasons to come. We are so lucky to
have had his daily presence, steady assistance and unwavering
encouragement over the last 18 years. He certainly left a part of him in
every corner of the garden and we will cherish his memory at every turn.
A Celebration of Life service will take place at the Holstein United
Methodist Church on Sunday evening at 6:30pm with family visitation to
follow in the church's Fellowship Hall. If there is a garden in Heaven,
I'm sure Gramps is sharpening his trusty hoe already!
Heavenly Father,
We commend Marvin into his heavenly home and
ask you to be with his family as they mourn their loss. Surround them
with love and renew their strength in the awareness that Marv is now
healed and whole once again.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Prayers are requested for Scott Irwin. He is having surgery on this
morning for the removal of an acostic neuroma. It is on the nerve that
controls your equilibrium. He has lost some hearing already. The surgery
will last from 4-6 hours. We pray, too, for Jerry and Sharon who have
traveled to Chicago to be there during surgery. Sharon will be staying
to help as he recovers, also.
Dear Heavenly Father, We especially ask you care and protection for
Scott on Thursday as he undergoes this surgery. Guide the hands of the
experienced surgeons who will be doing the surgery. Give caring doctors,
nurses, and aids to administer to his needs. If it be your will, let his
recovery be uneventful and swift. We thank you for his faith and comfort

caregivers, and family. We boldly ask for this surgery to be successful
and his recovery short. Lord, we trust you to protect Max and to provide
both comfort and strength for his parents, grandparents,

Our prayers are requested for Don Hatch who
had shoulder surgery at The Dunes today. Our prayers are also requested for
the people in the Iowa Great Lakes Area. They received over six inches of
rain Saturday night through Monday morning and it rained heavily there this
morning. The situation is becoming close to critical, especially for Jerry
and Sharon Irwin’s daughter and family.
Our heavenly Father, We come before you on
behave of Don. Guide the skilled hands of the surgeons as they perform this
surgery. Let all his trust be in You and if it be thy will grant him a
speedy recovery. We know that we need rain and without it we would be in
trouble like the southwest but this week in the Iowa Great Lakes Area it is
getting to be too much which isn't good either. We ask you to slow or stop

Born on October 18, 1923 in rural Storm Lake, Rich was the youngest of

mischief with his siblings and worked hard for his father on the farm, which is
now owned by his youngest daughter, Lynn.

Agriculture was Rich’s passion. He was one of the first farmers in Sac County
to terrace. After moving to the farm south of Early, he won a State Conservation
Award. In the 1980s, he served one term as Sac County Supervisor. After retiring
from farming, he worked as a crop insurance adjuster. While living in Storm
Lake, he was maintenance manager of Lakeview Manor Apartment.

Just a personal note
to say “Thank You” for the awesome salad luncheon, coffee before the study, and

You are a good example of the UMW purpose & what we strive to be. I really

hard work in a difficult time for your community & surrounding area. In
Christ’s Love,

===Dear Early UMW & Pastor
DeeAnn… Thanks to all of your for your generous hospitality in hosting our
recent Spiritual Growth Study on April 12th, and even after the
terrible storm that hit your community. I felt the study went well, due to the
wonderful setting, great participation of the 50 plus attendees and the
wonderful food prepared and served by all your UMW members. I also want to
thank Pastor DeeAnn for serving the communion – what a wonderful closing to our

grateful thanks to everyone for helping make our study a success. May you all
have a Blessed Easter and a great year.

Friends,
We learned today Bill McClure, former Sac County Deputy, Early resident,
and father of current Sac County Sheriff Ken McClure, had a heart attack
this week. He is doing well but his family has asked for our prayers.
Heavenly Father,
We come to you on Bill's behalf, asking for your healing power and
comfort. Be with him, Mary, and their family as he recovers, providing
all that's needed for him to be restored to wholeness as your will
dictates. We know you are greater than all our needs and love your
children unconditionally. Let your will be done.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

aftermath of last weekend's storms.

passing and turn to you for comfort in this time of loss. Wrap his loved
ones with your arms and give them peace.
And we ask you to continue to be with all those affected by the storms
last weekend. As clean up and restoration continue, we seek your
strength. Continue to bless us with your care and give us the courage to
face what each day brings. We trust in you, rely on you, and glorify

Friends,
We received this prayer request from the folks at Joppa, the homeless
ministry in Des Moines we support:
We are asking prayer requests for
Lance Oppenhiem who lived at the Butler apartments on 15th street the
last few months. He has been ill for quite some time and has decided to
enter hospice. This was a very difficult decision for him. Please keep
him and his family in your prayers. Mostly likely his time is short.
Thank you for lifting up Lance and
his family in prayer
Heavenly Father,
We seek your comfort, protection,
and care for Lance. Surround him with your angels and give him perfect
peace. We trust you to be Lance's Great Physician, providing all he
needs in these days.
In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.

Friends,
Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. There will be worship tonight
at 7:30 pm at the Early UMC. Please join us.
Also, for those participating in the 40 Days with Jesus Lenten Journey,
begin your readings today. (Read daily, excluding Sundays, through April
23.) Our first time of fellowship and sharing will be this Sunday following
worship in Furrow Hall.
We lift Robin in prayer as she has outpatient surgery today and welcomes
your prayers for a quick recovery.
We share a joy as Ann was appointed by Governor Branstad and Lt Governor
Reynolds to the Transportation 2020 Citizens Advisory Committee yesterday.
And we seek safe travels for all those who are on the roads today.
Heavenly Father,
We raise Robin to you as she has outpatient surgery this morning. Be with
you, touch her with your healing hand, and give her peace. Surround her with
love and be her rock, the one she can depend on. And we seek wisdom, skill,
and compassion for her surgeon and medical team. Let them be your hands and
feet today, reflecting Jesus' love to Robin and all those they minister to.
We ask you to be with Dennis and their girls as well. Let them know the
comfort of your presence.
We give you the glory for Ann's appointment and ask you to be with her as
she fulfills this year long obligation.
And we ask you to be the unseen passenger in all vehicles traveling today
these wintery conditions. Take us safely to our destinations and home again.
All these things we pray with confidence in the precious name of Jesus.
Amen.

As many of you know, Penny
Sievers (of Newell) has been at battle with the cancer for a very long
time. Friends and family tell us Penny may be in the last days of this

Penny has helped so many over the years with her positive attitude and

Friends,
We raise Dillon Waters in our prayers as he deployed to
Afghanistan yesterday (January 8). Dillon, from Nemaha, is the
son of Denise Waters (Chris Wunschel) and a former member of our
UMYF. He graduated from Schaller Crestland in 2010.
Heavenly Father,
Go with Dillon and his fellow troops to Afghanistan and wrap
your arms of protection around them. Give them courage and the
confidence in knowing you are with them in all circumstances.
And be with their families, surrounding them with Christian
friends who offer their support as Dillon and others are
serving. We seek your special blessings on all our military and
our nation's leaders. Give them wisdom and guidance so all they
do would honor you.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Dear Church
Family…
Thank you
all so much for the thoughts, prayers, and cards sent our way after both of our
surgeries this last month or two. Thank you also for the prayer shawls for
Dave, his Dad, and myself. You can feel all the love and prayers that went into
making them, full of comfort and peace. We have received many blessings from
God through all of you. May God bless and keep all of you. Thank you! ….Dave

Our special thank you to
everyone who provided poinsettias to beautify the sanctuary during the holiday
season; for those who decorated the church for the Advent and Christmas season,
to the Sunday School children, youth, and teachers for a wonderful Christmas
Program; and to the Community Crooners for sharing their beautiful music on
December 19th. We appreciate each and everone’s special talents and gifts.
Thank you for sharing them with us!

LaVerne Geisinger, age 98, of Storm Lake, Iowa died January 1, 2011
in Storm Lake. Genevieve LaVerne Hinde Jenkins Geisinger was born
on a farm near Early, Iowa on August 28, 1912 to Richard Franklin
Hinde and Lulu Pearl Hinde. She graduated from Early High School in
l929 and attended Iowa State Teachers College, now Northern Iowa, in
Cedar Falls for two years.
On December 3l, l931 she married William Boyd Jenkins. They had
three children: Patricia Faye, Ronald (Ron) Richard, and William
(Bill) Neal. When her children went to college, she started work as
a bookkeeper for Iowa Automatic Gas Company, where she worked until
retirement. While in Early she was active in Early Methodist Church
which she joined at an early age. LaVerne was a member of the United
Methodist Women and Early Federated Woman's Club, serving as
president of both organizations as well as many other offices. For
many years she was the anonymous author of a feature column in the
Early News. Her husband Bill died in 1984.
In 1989 she married Gilbert Geisinger and moved into his home in
Storm Lake. After she moved to Storm Lake, she attended the United
Methodist Church there. Gilbert died in November 2000.
One of LaVerne’s favorite places to be was seated at the card
table, waiting for the action to begin, be it Bridge, Cribbage,
Pitch, Crossword Puzzle, or Scrabble. Those who sat across the table
knew LaVerne to be a determined competitor and if you managed to
win, a rematch was soon to follow. She enjoyed her hobby of flowers
and arranging them. Her house was always open for family, friends,
and even strangers. She loved to entertain, and she hosted many
family celebrations and parties for any occasion. LaVerne had a love
and talent for writing, be it verse or a column in a newspaper. Her
latest effort was a Christmas 2010 poem she wrote for her children
and grandchildren just a few days before her death. Her greatest joy
was her grandchildren. She was a member of several bridge clubs and
at the time of her death was still an active member of two of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Wilma
Hinde, Joyce Miller Cornish and Mildred Christensen; her daughter,
Pat Petrilla and two stillborn great-grandsons; both husbands; and
her special friend, Wayne Higley.
Left to mourn her departure are her sons: Ron and his wife
Eleanor of Mitchell, South Dakota; Bill and his wife Becky of
Augusta, Georgia; a stepdaughter Mary Nakayama of Del Mar,
California; a stepson Lee Geisinger of Odebolt, Iowa; 9
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters;
many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren; and her special
friend Patti Jenkins.
