From The Armed Forces Chaplains' Board, Washington, D.C.
(1974)
Let us give thanks to God for the land of our birth with all its chartered
liberties. For all the wonder of our country's story:
WE GIVE YOU THANKS, O GOD.
For leaders in nation and state, and for those who in days past and in these
present times have labored for the commonwealth:
WE GIVE YOU THANKS, O GOD.
For those who in all times and places have been true and brave, and in the
world's common ways have lived upright lives and ministered to their fellows:
WE GIVE YOU THANKS, O GOD.
For those who served their country in its hour of need, and especially for
those who gave even their lives in that service:
WE GIVE YOU THANKS, O GOD.
O almighty God and most merciful Father, as we remember these your servants,
remembering with gratitude their courage and strength, we hold before you those
who mourn them. Look upon your bereaved servants with your mercy. As this day
brings them memories of those they have lost awhile, may it also bring your
consolation and the assurance that their loved ones are alive now and forever in
your living presence.

November 1, 2009 Bulletin
All Saints' Day is a universal festival of the Church. This
festival day directs our attention to the richness of Christian history and the
varied experiences of the grace of God by lifting up the lives of the saints.
The custom of commemorating all the martyrs of the Church on a single day goes
back at least to the third century. All Saints' Day (Nov. 1) celebrates not only
the martyrs and saints, but all the people of God, living and dead, who together
form the mystical body of Christ.
Below are the names of the members (and friends) of
our Church who have died since All Saints' Day last year. We remember them in
our prayers today, and we give thanks for their lives. We remember and find
strength in their faith and the faith of all the saints both known to us and
known only to God.
Martin
Blass, Eggo (Swede) Bulten, Mildred Irwin
PASTOR: Holy
and Eternal God, our Lord, we praise and thank You for these who have finished
their course in faith and now rest in the glory of Your eternal presence. Lord,
grant that inspired and loved by them, we may love and inspire those before us
for the sake of Your dear Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. In His name, we pray.
Amen.
PRESENTER:
We present these Prayer Garden Benches to be dedicated to the glory of
Almighty God and for the service in this church, in loving memory of Swede
Bulten, William & Emma Schmidt, Dale & Helen Mansfield, & Melvin & Darlene
Toomer.
LAY LEADER: We accept these gifts as a sacred trust, and shall guard
them reverently, in honor of the faithful and devoted life in whose memory they
are given.
PASTOR: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit, we dedicate these Prayer Garden Benches to the glory of God and in
memory of these people. The memory of the righteous is ever blessed. Give unto
the Lord the glory that is due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of
holiness. Let us pray:
PEOPLE: Almighty God our heavenly Father, without whom no words
or works of ours have meaning, but who accepts the gifts of our hands as the
tokens of our devotion: Grant Your blessing upon us as we dedicate these gifts
to Your glory. May these memorials be an enduring witness before all Your
people of the faithful service of Your servants. May our lives, being
consecrated unto Your service, be joined with Your faithful ones into that
building which is as a holy temple in the Lord. Amen.

Friends,
Gala will have a shunt put in her head to draw spinal fluids and administer
chemotherapy. The lymphomas she has is fast growing, however, the doctors
are not alarmed.
Frank's angiogram this afternoon showed 90 to 95 percent blockage in the
upper part of his heart but the blockages are calcified so they were not
able to install stents. He now will need to decide if he wants bypass
surgery. He remains in the hospital in Fort Dodge for at least tonight and
perhaps one more.
Heavenly Father,
We raise Gala and Frank to you in our prayers again today. Be with them as
they each go through these procedures and move forward with their treatment.
We trust them to you and ask for your healing touch on each of them.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
October 13, 2009
Friends,

so treatments can be adjusted appropriately. Robyn said Gala has had a bad

Heavenly Father,
You know the concerns of our hearts. We raise Frank, Margaret's family, and
Gala to you for your care. We ask your healing touch be upon them. For Frank
we seek your comfort as he undergoes this procedure. For Margaret's family
we ask for your loving arms to be wrapped around them as they have
experienced loss. For Gala we seek your miraculous healing power for this
young mother and new bride. Equip her with strength, courage, and
determination. Give her caregivers compassion so they might minister not
only to her physical needs, but her spiritual ones as well. For all these
children, we ask you to extend your care to their families who are on these
journies.
Gracious God, we know all things are possible through you. We come before
you seeking your great power to be put in action for these these
circumstances. We trust in you and your son, Jesus, and surrounded by your
Holy Spirit we offer all glory, honor, and praise for your unconditional
love.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Friends,
Here's an update on Braydon Hicks. He did not have surgery yesterday. Pastor
will keep us informed as she receives news through her daughter.
There has been a flu outbreak at Texas Children's Hospital. The flu is
difficult for any child to handle, but exponentially worse for a child that
has a pre-existing heart or respiratory condition. Our doctors felt
that it was best to ensure Braydon was not exposed to this illness or any
other virus, and estimate that he will be rescheduled for the procedure some
time between November 1st and 15th. Thank you so much for your
continued thoughts and prayers!

Subject: Prayer Request for Braydon Hicks
Friends
& Family of The Hicks Family,
Some of you may know, but others may not - Amber & David's son, Braydon Hicks
will be having open heart surgery this Wednesday. We thought it would be
powerful if little Braydon were covered in prayer for his entire 8 hour surgery.
Please see the attached document with information from Amber regarding Braydon's
condition, details of the procedure, and prayer request.
We are asking that you pray for Braydon for 5 minutes on Wednesday. To
ensure that he is covered in prayer for the ENTIRE surgery, please let me know
what time of the day (7:30am - 4:30pm) you will be able to pray for Braydon by
emailing me at rhonda_r_99@yahoo.com.
I will send out an email on Tuesday letting everyone know when their time is to
pray. Prayer is a powerful thing! We know that God will be looking
over sweet little Braydon during this procedure.
If you know of anyone else that might know the Hicks Family that would want to
pray for Braydon, please feel free to forward this email. Also, if you
know any powerful "prayer warriors" out there, please send this to them as
well.
Thanks in advance for your prayers!

Friends,
We raise Cheryl Hansen in our prayers as she suffered a heart attack
recently.
We also lift Bernie and Elaine Meyer in our prayers. These are Vicki
Matthaidess's parents who were involved in a car vs. pedestrian (them)
accident in Storm Lake on Sunday. Please read the following update from
Vicki:
They
are both doing much better! Mom’s head injury did not end up being as
serious as first suspected. She has a cracked pelvis – but they told us
yesterday she will be able to walk on it – so that was huge! She had
surgery yesterday on her left arm – they had to use a plate to put it back
together. She has a huge, horrible bruise on her hip and dad has a sore hip,
but miraculously they neither one broke a hip! The physical and
occupational therapist will start working with her today. They have not
given us a time line for dismissal.
Heavenly Father,
We
raise Cheryl, Bernie, and Elaine to you for your healing touch. Restore them
all to wholeness and surround them with your love. We know all things are
possible through You - we ask you for your tender mercies to be evident to
each of these people who are suffering. We ask your presence with their
families, their doctors, and those who care for them. Give all strength and
courage to face the challenges of each day.
In
Jesus's holy name we pray, Amen.

Friends,
Please share in this update from Megan (Freese) Jeffrey and offer your
prayers of prayers and thanksgiving for their good news!
Well it was off to school today!! Wow, was that ever hard for this Mom:o)
Landan has been very excited to go, but this morning he came to me
before school and said, "Momma, I'm going to miss you." Then the tears
came:o( Remember our rock story....well today I gave Landan a rock, told
him to keep it in his pocket and when he was missing home, just remember
our rock! He got a little worried on the way to school, thinking he had
lost the rock, but he found it and all was well! We got to school, stood
in line with 100 other kindergarteners, and their parents....he was very
brave and never shed a tear:o) That made me leaving him that much
easier! Might I add for those of you who may not know, Landan has been
at home with me since he was five months old:o( So today it's been a
little quiet around our house...Landan keeps everyone on their toes! I
drove by on the way to take Adi to the doctor and his class was outside
for recess, he can't do a lot of things, but he was drawing with
chalk...I'm sure tonight he will have many stories! So we met with the
Endorinologist today.....GOT GREAT NEWS!! He said that Adi is just fine,
all of her blood work was normal...he said it could be a possible cyst
on her ovaries causing a little fatty breast tissue, but nothing to
worry about at this time. He said NO MORE TESTING, that he feels that if
they did any testing everything would come out normal anyways, so why
spend the money!!! I wish all doctors would tell you that, as I think we
could own Children's Hospital by now! He wasn't one bit worried about
the bone age as she has stayed consistant with her growth. We go back in
December for a recheck, but all is well for now!! Thank GOD!!
Prayer is amazing!! Thank you all so very much!

Urban W. Determan, 89, Wall Lake, formerly of Early passed away on
Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.
Urban was born on March 20, 1920 near Early, the son of William J.
and Mary (Gard) Determan. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church. He attended Sacred Heart School in Early,
graduating in 1937.
After high school graduation, he
started to farm with his father. In 1942, he joined the Army Air
Force and served three years in the European theatre based in
northern Africa during World War II. He worked as an airplane
mechanic during that entire three year period, resulting in his poor
hearing later in life. In 1945, he was honorably discharged and
returned to Early and his vocation of farming.
|
On October 23, 1945, he was united
in marriage with Kathleen (Kay) Landgraf at Sacred Heart Church.
They were blessed with four children: Bill, Rosemary, Steve and Jan.
They made their home on a farm on Highway 20, south east of Early.
In 1983, they built a new home in Early and Urban “retired” from the
farm. While living in Early, their home became the stop for the
grandchildren coming and going from school and church activities as
well as a fun place to visit on weekends.
|
Urban was a member of the Early
American Legion and enjoyed playing men’s softball with a team in
Early for several years. His love of baseball was passed on to the
grandchildren as he played catch and hit balls to them for hours at
a time.
|
| Survivors include: his wife of 63
years Kathleen of Wall Lake, IA; son Bill and wife Susan of Sioux
City; daughter Rosemary Groteluschen and husband Roger of
Marshalltown; son Steve and wife Barb of Early; daughter Jan Burhop
and husband Kirby of Schaller; twelve grandchildren: Billie Determan,
Omaha; Barry Determan and wife Traci, Belton, MO; Dr. David

is doing wonderful! Before surgery he was in the 40th percentile for
height and weight, after surgery he is now in the 90th percentile:o)
Amazing! The dr was very pleased! He was very excited that he didn't
have to have the before school immunizations, he can't have them for
at least six months after surgery:o) Little does he know, he will
eventually have to have them:o) Otherwise everything checked out
good for him. School starts on the 17th already and he can't wait.
Next week he goes to the cardiologist again, sooo we will see what
they have to say! On another note, we also took Adisan in on
Friday for her 9 month. We ended up spending most of the day at
Children's Hospital with her. Adi is very tall- 30 inches...well
with a couple of other flags the dr wanted to have her bone age
tested and blood work. We took her in and they had issues getting
blood- I think it was because she hadn't eaten since 8 and we waited
and waited until after noon before they finally took blood...anyways
they poked her three times, moved the needle around, and finally got
7 viles of blood. Her poor arms are now black and blue. We then went
down for a bone age xray. Yesterday we got the call, her xray came
back abnormal and she has the bone age of a two year old. The blood
tests aren't back yet, but the dr called an endocrinologist (sp)
before calling me and they are squeezing Adi in on the
17th..otherwise it would have been Oct...but the dr feels this is an
emergency. She is developing too fast...if it's not hormones then
they will check her glands. She said what could happen is that she
grows real fast now and then she will stop growing and be really
short..I don't really understand everything, but we just pray that
things go well! I will keep you posted! If you wouldn't mind saying
an extra prayer for her we would greatly appreciate it! God Bless
You!
Heavenly Father,
We ask you to pour out your blessings upon this family. We
rejoice in Landan's healing and we now lift Adisan to you for your
tender care. Let this precious family know you love them, you desire
only good for them, and you will be with them as they begin a new
journey. Surround them with loving, Christian people who will smooth
their path and lighten their burdens. Give them peace, hope, and the
contentment only a child of God can enjoy. You are great and
powerful, we seek your presence. All glory to you.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2009
JULY 12-16TH, 2009
Vacation Bible School started on Sunday, July 12th and ran through Thursday,
July 16th in Early. The United Methodist Church hosted the VBS with the help
of many volunteers from the community. The Directors of the program this
year were Jeanette Weber and Marge Cuthrell, both from early.
The program was great fun for all the children as they went to camp E.D.G.E.
The children started the night with songs and stories which Jeanette and
Marge told and they also had help from their friend Sparks (a puppet). The
children would then break up into groups and travel to different camps and
learn about God. One Camp group went to "Galilee" with the help of Mr. &
Mrs. Bihrers. Another camp was the "Upper Room" with Brian Pickhinke and
Bill Cougill helping out. One group also went to The Promise Land with the
help from Tami Hoeppner. Another group of campers got to go to Bethlehem
with the help from Robin Wissink and a compass. Another Group of very small
campers found their way all over with their guide Gen Hill. The night didn't
end there as the campers made crafts and had snacks. A couple of young
campers were asked what they learned at camp and they said, "God Loves You!"
A
special thank you to all who helped in any way with Vacation Bible School,
July 12-16, 2009. Camp E.D.G.E. was an extreme adventure camp taking kids
on exciting Bible treks to experience and discover God everywhere, every
day. Donations for the local Food Pantry were collected and will be
distributed.

Friends,
We raise Doug Reis in our prayers as he will have another surgery on his
foot tomorrow in Omaha. The original repair of his achille's tendon has
proven very troublesome - a subsequent surgery and then skin grafting
were not successful. He hopes tomorrow's surgery will provide the means
to healing he has been seeking.
Heavenly Father,
We raise Doug in our prayers and ask you to go with him to surgery,
guiding the surgeon's hands, helping them make the needed repairs so he
can be restored to health. Minister to his heart and mind as well, Lord,
as his spirits are suffering along with his foot. We ask your healing
power, your bountiful blessings, and restoring grace be poured out upon
Doug. And surround his family with your love as well, equipping them to
be helpers in the process.
In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Friends,
Landan Jeffrey's surgery today was successful and we offer prayers of
joy and thanksgiving. We also seek God's favor for Landan and his family
during his recovery.
It does require registration, but, it's a simple process. The following
is the post from Meg this evening.
We arrived at the hospital around 9 am this morning. They took vitals
and we were then able to just relax and watch a movie until the time
came for surgery. Remember my rock story...well last night we went on a
walk...Landan chose two rocks, one for me and one for himself. And as
promised we brought them today. Well before the surgery today, he rolled
over in his bed and was like mom look. I went over and his bed was full
of rocks:o) Around 1030..."Luigi" he was the anethesiologist...he looked
just like Luigi from Mario Brothers and Landan was so excited:o) He gave
Landan his happy juice, and it wasn't long and Landan was in la la land
tossing rocks up and down:o) That brings us to 1058 they took him to the
OR, he said his goodbyes to grandparents and us and he was off. They
began with the TEE, basically to recheck the heart real good to make
sure nothing else was wrong. At 1200 they started the bypass, they said
all was going as planned and Landan was doing great. At 120 they called
and he was off bypass already and they were just waiting to make sure
his heart was working correctly before closing him back up. At 230 Dr
came in and said surgery was done...he said when they got inside the
heart they found that Landan not only had one hole, but there was a
cluster of holes. He had also said the the devices that they put in last
year, were not flat and they had blood clotting around them on the left
side...so it was a good thing they removed those devices and closed
those holes as well. Troy had asked yesterday if he would keep those
devices so we could see them, he brought them out after surgery today
and they were the size of a quarter, so they were pretty good sized for
such a little guy. He told us that the heart is surrounded by a bag, he
cut that bag and tanned that tissue and that's what he used to close the
holes. At 300 Troy and I were able to go see Landan in the PICU...I got
very light headed seeing my baby on all of those machines, I had to sit
down...just cried! He is hooked up to a lot of stuff, and is complaining
of pain, but is highly medicated. He is a very smart little man he has
been begging for water...the nurse got him a sponge, well when she would
turn away he would suck the water....long story short, but he is doing
well for everything he has been though today. There is more things, I'm
sure I left out...but my folks and Troys mom are still here, they wanted
me to go let you all know what was going on as we have had several phone
calls. We will update tomorrow as we are all very sleepy tonight. Troy,
Adi and I will stay here tonight. Tomorrow they said he is doing well,
so we will be moved out of the PICU hopefully and up to a normal room.
Love to all and Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers today! God
Bless You All!

She was recognized at Iowa Annual Conference in June. Her faith, willingness to

Holy Scriptures, are to be celebrated. We seek your blessing upon Dawn and thank
you for sending her to minister to all of us at the Early UMC and in our

she can implement
her training in serving you.

We just learned Landan's surgery has been postponed to Tuesday - his
doctor will be performing heart surgery on a newborn tomorrow.
Heavenly Father,
We raise Landan and his family to you as they now wait out this delay.
Their emotions are so high! Be with them, giving them a spirit of peace

Friends,
Today we lift Landan Jeffrey in our prayers. Landan is the son of
Megan (Freese) and Troy Jeffrey of Omaha and grandson of Grammy Dawn
and Popo Larry Freese.
Tomorrow at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Landan will undergo open
heart surgery to repair holes in his heart. From his Grammy Dawn:
Prayers are needed as we head into a week of tension and fear of the
unknown. Pray all of this doesn't make Landan angry - there is just no
way to prepare him for what lies ahead.
You can read more about Landan's condition and receive updates by
visiting the link to Care Pages below (copy and paste into your
browser). A quick registration process is required. You will also be
able to leave words of encouragement for Landan and the family.

You are good and we trust you. Bring Landan through his surgery,
giving him peace of mind and a mended heart. Surround him and his
family with your love. Let your Holy Spirit reside with all of them
and send them angels to minister to their needs. We ask your blessings
on Landan and pray for skill, wisdom, and compassion for his doctors
and nurses. We know you hear and will answer our prayers. In Jesus'
name we pray.

I want to thank you
from the bottom of my heart for acknowledging my graduation from the School of

inspirational and very worthwhile. I have appreciated the many prayers of
encouragement along with your love and support. The quilt wall hanging you gave

Prayer Request for Teresa Bettin. She had more surgery early this evening.
They found an adhesion from her surgery on June 5 that had caused a bowel
obstruction.
Almighty God, Father of us all, I come to You on behalf of Teresa. If it Your
will, restore her to health, and reunite her with her family. Grant patience to
Teresa as she is confined to her sick bed. Bless the doctors, nurses, and all
who minister to her. Let Your holy will be done among us to Your glory. Amen.

problem and help her on the way to health. Give Teresa a full measure of
your grace and give her your strength and love during this trying time. We
ask you to be with Rose and to be with the surgeon and other hospital staff
who are and will be taking care of her now, during and after her surgery.

Friends,
We are asked to raise Annual Conference in our prayers. Voting on
contentious legislative matters will take place this afternoon. We also
rejoice because Bishop Trimble wore the prayer shawl given to him during
his visit to the Early UMC last fall. Most especially we offer our
congratulations and praise for Dawn Freese who graduates from School for
Lay Ministry during Conference.
Heavenly Father,
Be with the body of the Iowa United Methodist Church gathered in Ames
this weekend. Guide their thinking and decisions, Lord, to be scriptural
and based on those essential truths. Provide for them wisdom,
discernment, and strength of character. Send your Holy Spirit to be with
them as they progress through these days. Let their actions be pleasing
to you, God, and let their decisions be ones which honor you.
We thank you, blessed Lord, for touching Bishop Trimble's heart with the
gift of a prayer shawl, created with loving hands, blessed by the people
of the Early UMC. We hope as the Bishop wore the shawl, the power of the
prayers going into its creation and blessing are felt anew by the wearer
and all those at Conference this weekend.
And we truly rejoice in Dawn's accomplishments. Her faith, willingness
to stretch herself personally, and dedication to growth in understanding
of your Holy Scriptures, are to be celebrated. We seek your blessing
upon Dawn and thank you for sending her to minister to all of us at the
Early UMC and in our community and beyond. We pray a hedge of protection
around her, so she feels the comfort and strength only you can provide

Prayer Request for Teresa Bettin, Lake View. She had surgery Friday morning.
Father in Heaven, Thank you for the gift of skillful hands and minds which have
been used in behalf of Teresa. Thank you for the gift of care, kindly
administered through nurses, doctors, aids, and orderlies. Thank you for easing
her pain. Make Teresa comfortable. Help her recover. If it be Your will,
grant Teresa a speedy recovery. Strengthen Teresa in spirit as well as in body.

Friends,
We lift Ruby Determann in our prayers as she fell earlier this week and
broke a bone in her leg. She's in the hospital in Carroll where they did
surgery to insert a rod. The process was made more difficult because she
can't use general anesthesia due to her heart and lung condition - just
local pain killers which aren't as effective.
Heavenly Father,
We lift Ruby to you and ask you would give her your healing touch. Let
her know you are with her, helping her to recover from the fall and
surgery. Give her friends and family a measure of compassion and
strength to be Ruby's helpers.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
June 4, 2009
Friends,
We raise Brenda Kunneke in our prayers. She had surgery yesterday and
Pastor visited yesterday afternoon, finding her comfortable and resting.
Heavenly Father,
We raise Brenda to you in our prayers, asking for your healing touch to
be upon her. Surround her with your love along with messengers of your
peace. Let her know your presence and restore her to wholeness. Be with
her family, her medical team, and friends during this time of
recuperation. In all things, let her know your presence and give her
confidence to call upon you for all she needs as you are the source of
everything good.
In the holy and precious name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

I just got home from Mercy in Sioux City, Rich is staying there. Asking
for prayers of healing for Nick. He was in a 4-wheeler accident this
evening. Watching a bruise on his brain, lots of severe road rash,
missing finger nails, shattered front teeth and waiting to hear if his
arms are broken...if they are they won't be able to cast them due to
the abrasions. Nothing appears to be life threatening but is in stable
condition in the ICU. Will know more in the morning. Thanks for your
prayers!!
Heavenly Father,
Pour out your love and healing power over Nick. Restore him to fullness
and surround him with loving, wise, compassionate caregivers. Give him
strength and courage for the days ahead and send your Holy Spirit to be
with his family during these days.
These things we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

Friends,
We share the latest update from Lisa Drey Mandernach's Caring Bridge
website so you all can hold her and her family in your prayers.
***************************************************************
We started the day with meetings. Doctors, social workers, RN's and
Family.
Our worst fears have been recognized. The results of the MRI test
report that Lisa is about as good as she can be. We hit a plateau a few
days/weeks ago. Looking for any sign of progress we and the staff could
find. Unfortunately, we've reached the best quality of life Lisa could
ever achieve.
Lisa has touched so many lives and has had more support than we could
ever have imagined. We can't thank you enough. Calls, visits, emails,
cards, posts to the site have really kept us all going with positive
thoughts and prayers of hope.
God has a bigger plan and we all wish we knew what that might be.
We live our lives hoping one day we achieve that next great step. It's
a much bigger step than a "baby step".
Keep Lisa and her family in your thoughts and prayers as she is about to
take a much bigger step...heaven.
TJ's there to Welcome her home.
Take care of my baby sister :)

Friends,
Please keep the families of Warren Campbell and Joel Nading in your
prayers. Both are brothers in law of Chuck and Lisa Struchen and both
passed away this morning.
We also remember Tillie Drey who is in the hospital in Storm Lake with
congestive heart failure.
Heavenly Father,
Welcome Warren and Joel into heaven as they have left their earthly
homes and will now spend eternity with you. We ask your presence for
their families left behind - wrap them in your loving arms. Equip your
children here on earth to be ministers to their families, sharing
Christ's love with them.
We raise Tillie to you Lord for your care. Let her find peace, comfort,
and relief from discomfort. Give her strength and courage as she faces
this battle. We remember all the Dreys to you, Lord, in this time of
need when you can provide for them all that is needed.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Friends,
Today we raise Jackie and Terry Duffy of Sac City in our prayers. Their son,
Patrick, was killed in a car accident on Monday. Jackie is Dave Nees'
sister.
We also lift Lynn Jeffrey in our prayers upon his diagnosis of cancer. Lynn
is Troy Jeffrey's father and Troy is Megan Freese's husband. They live in
the Omaha area.
Please read this update on Pastor Lee Mentink as well. Pastor served Faith
Lutheran in Early a few years ago and now resides in Galva.
Mrs. Mentink called just a few minutes ago and said Pastor had had
anappointment this afternoon in Sioux City with his Drs. They kept him
there and he will have an MRI and then they will do surgery on his back
again either yet today or tomorrow. He has been having a lot of pain
just below where the rods they put in last time ended, She said he had a
compression fracture there now. Eleanor was making plans to go to be
with him. May God guide the hands of the surgeons and give them the
knowledge and skill to repair the problem with his back. May He please
also give them both faith and courage to deal with yet another trial.
Thank you for your prayers.
Heavenly Father,
We lift to you the Duffy family and ask you to provide to them all that
is needed in this time of loss. Be with them, send your Holy Spirit to
minister to them, and help them to get through each minute, each hour.
We offer our prayers for Patrick whose life was cut short. Help those
suffering from grief and show them the hope of tomorrow in your name.
Be with Lynn and his family, Lord, as they absorb the news of his cancer
diagnosis. This is an unexpected journey and we pray you will be with
them on each step, revealing your abundant grace. We ask for your
healing touch for Lynn, for wisdom and compassion for his medical team,
and your unconditional love for all of his caregivers.
We pray also for Pastor Mentink as he continues this battle seeking
relief from pain in his back. Let this surgery be successful. Guide the
hands of his doctors and surround him with loving, Christ-like people.
Wrap your loving arm around all so they would know the comfort and peace
only you can provide.
These things we ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

YOU:
I want to thank everyone for your prayers and especially for the prayer shawl
that Ann Ray delivered. I can truly feel the love and power of prayer it
represents. My leg is now in a cast, and I am able to be out and about with the
aid of my crutches. After the cast is removed, I will be in a cam-boot for
another month and then rehab. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness.

Prayers are requested for Grayson Groeneweg, Milford. Grayson was born on
April 15. On April 24 he became fussy, refusing to eat. In the evening his
parents took him to the Spencer Hospital. After an examination, they sent him by
ambulance to Rochester.
Monday they operated on his aorta to his heart. It wasn't big enough. The
surgery went well and he seemed to be doing okay. Then his blood pressure
started to rise. Yesterday they determined that he has pulmonary hypertension
and he was intebated again and a pic line was put in to give antibiotics for an
infection. They also put in a new arterial line and a catheter. Please keep Eric
and Becky (mom & dad), big brother Tate and especially Grayson in your prayers.
Dear Father in Heaven, Please be with the Groenewegs during this very trying
time. Bless Grayson with help of the doctors and nurses who are caring for him.
Give the whole family your peace and knowledge that you are ever with them and
holding them up. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

yesterday while she was in Sioux Falls visiting with friends. She is in one of
the hospital's there and had surgery to relieve some of the pressure. Let us

THANK YOU:
Dear Friends…What a nice surprise when I opened the box from our daughter,
Barbara. Thank you so much for thinking of me and offering all your prayers.
It is much appreciated. I’m feeling better now and getting out on nice
days. ….Sincerely, Clyde Campbell

Brothers
and Sisters in Christ:
We can’t begin to thank you enough for all the prayers, well wishes and
words of encouragement leading up to, and since our arrival in Oregon. You all
remain close to our hearts and in our prayers. The prayer shawls are but one
reminder of our connection to the EUMC. We have so many memories! One we will
never forget is the hands-on prayer – the Holy Spirit’s power was certainly
evident that morning, wouldn’t you agree?
We have been attending an 8:30 a.m. service at the Roseburg UMC. It is a
bit contemporary, primarily the music, and the messages are scripture based.
They have a 10:30 a.m. service as well, but we haven’t tried that yet.
If any of you find yourselves desiring a taste of God’s beauty in the west,
don’t hesitate to look us up. We have a couple extra bedrooms and can get
around most of the time now without getting lost!
May God continue to bless you all! Our prayer for you is from Ephesians
3:14-21:
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the
Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious,
unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots
will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power
to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how
deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great
to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of
life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through
his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might
ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all
generations forever and ever! Amen.
…In Christ’s love, Tonia & Bob

WITH SPECIAL THANKS…
We wish to thank the members of the church for the lovely prayer shawl. It
is very comforting to know so many are praying for us during this time of
sorrow.
The love we felt when opening the package brought tears to our eyes. We
will cherish this gift of love and caring as we cherished our son.
The Early Methodist Church was an important part of our lives for many
years. Many happy memories from years gone by involved the church. You have
made us feel a part of that community again.
We may never understand why Sam was taken from us, but the prayers and love
of so many help ease the pain.
With heartfelt thanks and love. God bless you all.

Mildred Irwin
 Mildred
(Wadsley) Irwin, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday,
March 10, 2009 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Services for
Mrs. Irwin were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009

charge of the arrangements.
Mildred was born on April 27, 1911 in Sac County, Iowa, the
third child of George W. and Mary (Gooding) Wadsley. She lived
in Early, Iowa until her marriage to Wayne Irwin in January,

her father's death in 1951, she became a partner with Floyd
until her retirement in 1972.
Wayne and Milly traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and
Canada, spending the winters in Palm Desert, California.
Milly was involved in many community activities. She was a
past matron of Order of Eastern Star, served as treasurer of the

The Cornerstone Cafe has
been open three different Saturday nights with 2 to 12 youth attending each
night. We feel that as the cafe continues to be open two Saturday nights a
month, more and more young people will come. In March, the Cafe will be
open on the 14th and on the 28th. Please be in prayer over the next weeks
that the youth in our communities will want to "hang out" in safe, drug and
alcohol free environments whether that is at the Cafe or somewhere else.
In addition, we ask for
volunteers to man the Cafe. While Dennis and I love doing this, there will
be Saturday nights when we are just not able to be at the Cafe. One such
night is March 28th. Anyone who is interested in running the cafe on the
28th or on future Saturdays, please let me know.
Thanks so much.

THANK YOU: We would like to thank your church for the prayer shawl that my brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Deb Galvin, delivered to us before we left for Rochester for my husband’s surgery. On the day of surgery while waiting for him, I put the shawl around me and felt the peace and comfort of the Lord. I am a true believer in the power of prayer and feel that all the prayers for my husband helped for him to have a successful surgery. Orly has to have several weeks of radiation and chemo, and I know that the shawl will be a comfort to both of us through this hurdle in life. I would ask that you still keep us in your prayers. God bless and again, thank you for the shawl and the prayers that came with it.

January 2009 Newsletter
Dear Friends,
What an incredible surprise we received at the 125th Anniversary Celebration. A surprise that brought with it a flood of memories as we recalled where we started as Youth Leaders and the journey God took us on through the years as we became attentive and responsive to HIS call.
This ministry was fruitful because of the participation of the youth and the support of their families and this congregation.
We pray that during our years as leaders, God used us to plant seeds that will one day be fruitful in bringing and leading others to Christ. The rewards have truly outweighed the challenges.
It is with grateful hearts that we humbly thank each and everyone of you that organized and kept the "secret"; for the monetary donations to be used toward the development of the "Prayer Garden"; the "Sparkling Gems' book of daily devotions, which we have already found to be a helpful tool in deepening our relationship with Christ; The "Willow Tree Angel" and the "Life is Fragile Handle With Prayer" plaque are tangible reminders of your generosity; the Special Mission recognition submitted by the UMW in our names; not to mention the many notes from MYF members recalling your memories; and your presence with your hugs and conversations.
We have truly been blessed!!!
Your encouragement throughout the years was without a doubt Christ working through you to strengthen us.
We PRAISE AND THANK GOD for each and everyone of you!!!
…..The Toomer's and the Freese's

Pastor DeeAnn and members of the
Early UMC:
Please accept my deep appreciation to the Early UMC and you for your warm hospitality in hosting Racelder and me during our visit to the Northwest District. I felt the Holy Spirit moving among us as leaders of your congregation, and you shared stories of resurrection within the life of your church and the community as a result of your powerful prayer ministry.
We were overwhelmed by the generous gift to us of the handmade prayer shawl. As we wear it we feel the prayer support of your members.
Thank you for what you do in the name of Jesus Christ and the Church as you respond to God’s claim on your life! Please be assured of my prayers for you as you continue your faithful ministry.
Be Encouraged,
Bishop Julius Calvin Trimble
