Early UMC

EARLY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
November 16, 2011

Chairman John Weber opened the meeting; Pastor DeeAnn led in prayer.  The minutes of the October meeting were read and corrected to show the Thanksgiving service will be held here at the Early Methodist Church on Wednesday evening, November 23, rather than Sunday, the 20th as previously stated.

Deb Galvin reported for Outreach.  Fifty school bags were delivered to Ingathering in Cherokee on November 5th.  Due to a family health emergency, the bags were taken to Cherokee by Dennis and Mary Lou Steele rather than Randy and Deb Galvin.

Trustees report was given by Rich Mason.  He stated Control Systems have fixed the valve on the boiler and antifreeze has been added to the heating system.  They also fixed the radiator in the new bathroom so it no longer leaks.  Dave Nees fixed the front sanctuary door.  The new (reconditioned) dishwasher has been installed in the kitchen.  Pastor suggested a meeting of anyone who might be running the dishwasher to learn the proper operation for its use.  Rich stated Trustees will meet at 7:30 p.m. rather than 7:00 at future meetings unless there is a special need for longer discussion.

Herb Padgett presented the Treasurer’s report.  Outstanding bills are to the Conference for World Communion Sunday and Mid American.

Discussion followed about the adding of a “Missions” line to the budget.  Since the budget for 2012 is already set, an amount for “Mission” will be allocated at the January, 2012 meeting; a line item will be added in the 2013 budget.

Dennis Steele presented the financial report.  The totals as of November 13, 2011 are budget giving $64,835.95; MidAmerican $1,800; bequest $5,000 and other $8,133.38. Year-to-date total giving stands at $79,769.33.

Jeannette Weber stated the Sunday School Christmas program will be Sunday, December 18th at 5 p.m. with a light supper following.

Mary Lou Steele reported Christmas Capers will be Sunday, December 4 with the meal open to the public and served from 10:30 to 12.30.  There will be baked goods, candy, crafts and pecans for sale.  There will be a display of snowmen for viewing.

Pastor DeeAnn reported for Anita Mason that the Endowment account showed some improvement over last month.  Membership stands at 141 but will decrease by 5 on December 31st with the withdrawal of 5 members following action by Charge Conference. Pastor DeeAnn indicated she would like to talk with some of these members before this action becomes final.  She also reported that a supply company from Spencer installed a soap dispenser for the new dishwasher and that other janitorial supplies could also be ordered through this company.

A gift for Marlys Waters was discussed for her work maintaining our church website for which she has never asked for compensation.  A motion was made by Deb Galvin and seconded by Dennis Steele to give Marlys a gift as a thank-you from our church.  All were in favor.

There will be no Bible study or Prayer Band for the following 2 weeks.  Pastor will be traveling to Scotland and others will also be gone.

Post-confirmation class has been meeting and call themselves the FBI Christ’s Agents.

Since the number of pledge cards turned in last Sunday (Stewardship Sunday) was slim, cards will be made available this next Sunday for those who would wish to turn in a pledge.

There will be a special nominating committee meeting Thursday, December 8th to fill remaining vacancies prior to the new year.

Communion will be moved to December 11th when Pastor DeeAnn returns from her Scotland trip.  Dawn Freese will be filling the pulpit on the Sunday she is absent.

Meeting adjourned.  All joined in saying the Lord’s Prayer.

                                                                                    Mary Lou Steele, secretary
