Early UMC

EARLY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
September 16, 2009

No meeting was held in the month of July.  The meeting in August was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
Prior to the regular administrative council meeting, the group met with a representative of Olin Mills Photography to discuss the possibility of a new church directory.  It was the consensus of the council members that we proceed with planning for a new directory sometime after January 1, 2010.
John Weber presided at the business meeting with Pastor DeeAnn leading in prayer.
Neil Mason reported for Trustees.  Control Systems will come sometime in the near future to work on the boiler for the fall and winter season.  The Trustees will meet with Paul Park Construction to discuss further projects to be addressed.
Ann Trimble-Ray presented the Finance report.  Total giving from July 1 –September 13 was $19,648.32.  This includes a bequest from the estate of Mildred Irwin.
Herb Padgett presented the Treasurer’s report.
Rich Mason reported for the Finance committee.  Stewardship Sunday and Laity Sunday will be observed on November 15.  November 22 will be the culmination of the Heifer project.

Mary Lou Steele reported that Memorial committee had met in August . The new podium built for the Mabel Allen Lounge and purchased from memorial funds has been delivered.
Jeannette Weber reported for Christian Ed.  She said there will be three Sunday school classes this year.  December 20 will be the Sunday School Christmas program at 4 p.m. followed by a light supper. Waffle Sunday brought in $120.  The children will decide what mission project this money will be used for.  The children’s bell choir will play on Stewardship Sunday.  They will also present music on October 25.
Jeannette presented a proposal for consideration that one of the Sunday school rooms be redesigned as an adult lounge.  Neil Mason reported from the Trustees that they suggested using part of the Mabel Allen Lounge so it wouldn’t be necessary to do an extensive amount of change to alter the room.  This was tabled for discussion at a later date.
Mary Lou Steele reported for UMW.  Their first meeting  was held September 10 with a potluck supper.  The program was presented by Rich Feilmeier who spoke and showed pictures of his and his daughter’s mission trip to Haiti. Christmas Capers will be on Sunday, December 6.
Anita Mason reported for Endowment committee.  Larry Freese will be the new chairperson for this committee.  A bequest was received from the Mildred Irwin estate.  Anita also gave the membership report.
Deb Galvin spoke for the Outreach Committee.  Projects during the summer were sewing school bags for Ingathering, visiting shut-ins, the Heifer project, and gifts for school children which will be given at Christmas time. Other mission projects were proposed for this next year.  Deb  encouraged others to attend the Ingathering in Cherokee in November.
Pastor DeeAnn reported the new conference table had been set up in her study.  The new desk is pending.   Confirmation class will begin in October.  There will be four boys in this year’s class which will meet Wednesdays after school.  Pastor’s annual interview with the D.S.  will be in October.  Charge Conference will be held at Early UMC October 29 at 6 p.m.  Upcoming activities will be a Bible study—Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Christmas.  The meeting of the SPPR recently brought about the possibility of organizing some form of choir.
