Early United Methodist Church
Administrative Council - June 17, 2009
Chairman
John Weber called the meeting to order and asked Pastor DeeAnn Klapp to open
with prayer. Ann Trimble-Ray read the minutes of the May meeting which were
approved. She also gave the financial secretary's report saying income year to
date, including in-kind gifts, totals $44,024.29. For May and through June 14th, total income was $12,309.18. Of that, budget
giving was $7018.35, gifts to Mid-American were $600, in-kind offerings were
$4651.83, and other gifts totaled $39.
Ann asked if it was still the will of the group to print Ad
Council minutes in the church newsletter along with some financial information.
The consensus was yes. Ann will provide offering figures, Herb will work on a
simple way to reflect how income compares to budget, and Ann will talk with Mary
Lou Steele about submitting minutes.
Rich Mason reported for the finance committee and said they
voted to send a donation of $150 to John Hays for his water purification gizmo
mission as shared during the worship service at the Odebolt UMC on June 7.
Jeannette Fredericks-Weber made a motion to send $150 to John Hays. Hallie Mason
seconded the motion which carried unanimously. Rich also said the finance
committee recommended raising the honorarium for pianists/organists who serve
our congregation to $50 a service. He made a motion to that affect which was
seconded by Deb Galvin. Motion carried. Rich also said $581 has been spent on
the prayer garden project to date with the majority covered with donations.
John suggested John Hays' mission be considered for a
future Mission a Month project and perhaps he be invited to be a guest speaker
at some time.
Jeannette said the Christian Ed Committee has all rooms for
Vacation Bible School covered. They are still seeking a few volunteers for
crafts and snacks. An announcement will be included in the newsletter and
bulletins. The first Sunday of Bible school, July 12, an additional volunteer is
needed as Jeannette and Marge Cuthrell will not be there due to other
commitments. Ann will help. The Schaller UMC graciously donated many materials
for VBS as they have used the program and ordered several of the extras.
Treasurer Herb Padgett said account balances are $4912.71
in checking and $18,877.45 in savings. The church currently has a $202.95 credit
with MidAmerican. Outstanding bills include payment to Karen Blass, donation to
John Hays, and $29 in special offerings to be remitted to the Conference. He
also shared information from the Conference on where apportionments go as well
as resources available from Church Mutual, the church's insurance carrier.
Deb said the Outreach Committee will be making school bags
and set June 24 and 30 for work evenings. Members of the congregation are
encouraged to come with fabric scissors and pins. The goal will be cutting out
school bags then members will be asked to take them home to sew. In July, the
mission will be sending care packages to soldiers overseas. Deb is talking with
guard members about the most appropriate items. Jeannette also mentioned this
could be the VBS mission project. Pastor requested VBS children assemble Heifer
Project coin boxes.
Pastor reminded the Council Rev. Christopher Daniel will be
speaking at our church on June 28 during worship about his mission in Sri Lanka.
His daughter-in-law, Jennifer Daniel, will be offering special music that
morning as well. Then that afternoon, Restoration Isaiah 61 (Jennifer and Karen
Brinkmeyer) will offer a concert at our church at 4:00 pm. Pastor, with Anita
Mason's help, wrote and mailed letters about the concert to 58 area churches.
Pastor also said she talked with Neil Mason, trustees'
chair, about rearranging the altar area so she will preach from the east side
near where images are projected. They are considering a movable pulpit there.
Pastor and Ann have researched conference tables and desks.
Both are being investigated and will hopefully be acquired soon.
Pastor also said she will be calling an SPPR meeting in
July and also asked the Council to trade two days in July, working July 15 and
16 due to a wedding. Following discussion, Deb moved there be no committee or
Council meetings in July and Pastor rearrange her week as requested. Mary Fuhs
seconded the motion which carried.
The meeting was closed with all saying the Lord's Prayer.
