Early United Methodist Church
Administrative Council - February 24, 2010

EARLY UNITED METHODIST
CHURCH
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
February 24, 2010
The meeting was called to order by chairman,
John Weber. Pastor DeeAnn Klapp led the group in prayer. Minutes of the last
meeting—November 18—were read and approved.
Ann Trimble-Ray presented the financial report and incomes for
January and February, 2010. This includes Mid-American donations and in-kind
gifts.
Anita Mason stated membership stands at 142 members. The 2009
report shows 1 confirmand, 1 transfer in, 1 transfer out, 1 withdrawal, 3
marriages, 2 deaths and 2 deletions by Charge Conference action. A report on
the Endowment Fund balance was given by Anita, she indicated that the piano in
Furrow Hall had been tuned in January, and a memorial service for Ruth Ann
Russell is being planned for May 8.
Rich Mason reported for Finance. The committee has recommended to
pay all remaining months of 2010’s apportionments. The first 2 month’s
apportionments have already been paid. Rich made the motion to pay all
remaining apportionments for the year. Seconded by Herb. All in favor. Passed.
Herb Padgett presented the treasurer’s report including the balance
of checking, savings, and CD. Outstanding bills are from Mid-American,
Cokesbury, Gilson Electric, and Jeannette Weber (for 8 round tables purchased
with memorial money from Mildred Irwin). Jeannette explained that one table
arrived damaged. She has placed a claim with the delivery service. Any money
reclaimed could be used to buy a storage rack for the tables. When asked if the
heating bill showed any improvement after insulating and the new sanctuary roof,
Herb stated it was really hard to tell since this winter has been so much more
severe. Bills do show probable savings but more details would need to be studied
for a definite answer. Church insurance for the year has been paid as well as
the 1st two month’s apportionments.
Deb Galvin reported Outreach Committee had met prior to Adm.
Council tonight. Eight couples have signed up for the “Fireproof” movie and
dinner on March 20. April will stress subbing for regular Sunday School
teachers; a clean-up day is planned for the church in June; June and July will
be for sewing school bags; August and September will focus on filling the school
bags for Ingathering as well as helping Ellie Feilmeier with her mission project
in Haiti.
Mary Lou Steele said UMW had their annual pledge service scheduled
for February 12; unfortunately the meeting was not well attended. Next regular
meeting is set for Saturday, March 13. The UMW served their annual Soup
Luncheon last Sunday in conjunction with the church auction. A fairly good
crowd attended.
Jeannette Weber said Christian Ed committee had met tonight and
discussed Vacation Bible School which is tentatively set for the week of July
11. The Sunday School children will play the bells on Palm Sunday.
John Weber reported for the Trustees in the absence of chairperson,
Jan Mason. He said the Trustees had done a walk-through of the church to view
areas of possible work projects for the future, which have been discussed with
Ken from Paul Park Construction. Of first priority will be a bathroom in the
rear of the narthex in a current storage space. Other items to be addressed
will be replacing the last of the wooden doors that open onto the courtyard and
creating more storage space in the southwest storage space in Furrow Hall by
taking out a block wall separating the storage room from the unused space
previously used for outdoor equipment.
Pastor DeeAnn opened up discussion for finalizing the schedule for
Holy Week. She said Maunday Thursday will be observed on Thursday, April 1, at
7:30 p.m. Services on Good Friday are still pending though it was discussed and
many favored our own service on Friday, April 2, at 7:30. On Easter Sunday a
breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. and regular Easter service at 9:00. Pastor
plans to take her confirmation boys to Odebolt for a YES supper later in the
spring. Pastor also expressed her gratitude to Early UMC for replacing her
laptop computer. The “40 Days of Love” study will begin Tuesday, March 2 and
continue each week up until Easter. There will be a SPPRC meeting next Sunday,
Feb. 28 at Odebolt UMC. The joint group will need to meet again in April.
Confirmation will be held the first Sunday in May. It was reported that
response to the Pledge cards passed out in November was poor. Something new
might be needed for 2010. Pastor has been asked to be a mentor to possible
pastoral candidates. At this time she will be mentoring LuAnn Benge. The
meeting adjourned with all saying the Lord’s Prayer.
