Prayer for week beginning June 28, 2009

O Heavenly Father,

We praise you, Lord, for being our loving and gracious God. You alone are holy and worthy of our adoration. We honor you above all else, giving you glory.

We cherish the freedom we have to worship, to come to you in public, to raise your name. We honor the sacrifice of our ancestors and rejoice in our Christian community, joining with other believers to celebrate our nation’s birth this week.

We seek your continued guidance and ask your protection from those people and groups who would persecute us for our faith. We ask your will to be revealed so we know the direction you would have us take.

Jesus, walk beside us this week. Be our companion and very best friend. Holy Spirit, fill our hearts. Inspire us to share the good news of the Gospel with all who need to hear.

Pour out your blessings upon all the people of the Early UMC. Let us boldly proclaim our faith and make disciples of all.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!

PRAYER FOR LIBERTY…..

Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free.

Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived.  Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books.  It costs too much to be hoarded.  Help us to see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.
