History Book
A revised Early History Book
has been published. The History Book committee have collected many photos and
family histories as a continuation of the Centennial Book published in 1982. These hardcover books
may still available. Check at the Early City Clerk's office.
History Book Price: $40.00 Each
NOTE: History Books are being offered for a reduced price of $30.00 while
supplies last.
They will be availabe at the Crestland Reunion on July 23, 2010
and at Crossroads Days July 24, 2010.
(The Book Committee worked with HEARTLAND MARKETING as they

Scenes of Early
Notecards with Envelopes
Packet of six notecards of scenes of Early were available for $6.00 per set.
One notecard of each view is included in the set. They are blank inside and measure 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. The title, date built, and name of photographer is on the back. Sara Weitzel was the photographer for these six views around Early. Envelopes are included.

Print of Main Street by Jo Pullen
 Memorial for a Little Town

We are fortunate to have prints made from a painting by Jo Pullen of Main Street Early. She made the painting in 1993 and part of it was painted from memory as many of the buildings were in the process of being demolished. The original painting hangs in the Early Public Library. The full print measures 18" x 12", and the picture 16 1/2" x 6".
These prints are $12.00 each. Check with The Early Public Library for
availability.

 Beard Contest - Shaving PermitsThere
was a beard contest for the Quasquicentennial celebration. Those who prefered not to grow a beard,
needed to purchase a shaving permit for $5.00 or take a change on getting fined
by the Keystone Kops.
There may be a few of these Shaving Permits are available. Check with the City Clerk's Office.
Fines for a man with a smoothly shaven face not accompanied with a Shaving Permit
were subject to fines at the discretion of the Kangaroo Court!
Four categories were judged at the beard contest held on Saturday during the evening meal. The winners received a
trophy and $25.00 gift certificate in each category. Go to the home page for

Items Auctioned to the Public
The following items were available for the public to bid on during
the Quasquicentennial. The auction was held at 7:30 pm on Saturday, July
21st.
Auction for Large 3-Gallon CrockA large one-of-a-kind crock was auctioned off along with other memorabilia. The picture by Sandi Weitzel is the Eli Haradon Blacksmith and Wagon Shop. The back contains the size 3 (gallon) and Red Wing Stoneware logo, Red Wing, Minn. The signature on the bottom verifies 1 of 1 produced.

Auction for Commemorative Plates
 One Commemorative Plate of the Early Water Tower will be auctioned.

 One Sac County Redbook from 1924. It is an Atlas and Breeding Directory.

 A 1982 "Early Savings Bank" Calendar with aerial view of the town of Early. That was the year of the Centennial.

 A Dance Card from 1892 from Sac City, Iowa. There are many familiar names written inside including two people with the name of "Early", a "Drewey", and others that may sound familiar.

 A very old advertising plate: "Compliments of W. P. Wright, Early, Ia." There is a photo of the W. P. Wright building on the Photo Album, in the "Main Street" picture album.

The Early Public Library is offering Cookbooks that were published several years ago. These cookbooks were made from recipes donated by local people with their names associated with the recipes.
These cookbooks will make a nice gift for those who missed the first promotion.

Hose House Centennial Plate
The "Hose House" collector plate was the third in the Centennial Series and features an original pen and ink drawing by local artist Sandi Weitzel.
"This unusual building was constructed in approximately 1890 and was located on Main street in Early. It was the home of the Early fire department until 1941."

 Wooden Nickels are available from Early's Centennial.
These tokens are about the size of a 50 cent piece and sell for $1.00 each.
 One version shows just the centennial year, the other includes the date of the centennial June 25,26,27 1982 below the symbol.
The back of both show a covered wagon scene. These wood tokens are a nice reminder of Early's History.

may still be available. These golf-style caps are black and white with the snap at the front and sell for $5.00 each.
This will be a "second chance" to have a souvenir cap from Early's centennial.

Souvenir Stock
for Early's Quasquicentennial
There are Centennial Certificates available. These numbered Souvenir Stock certificates
were sold for $5.00 each and state that the holder has made a contribution to the Early Centennial Commission.
While these certificates remain from the Centennial in 1982, they can only "grow" in value as a collectible from Early's History. They have been signed by Frank L. Scott, Ruth Ann Scott, and Esther Null.
