Golf Tournament
In Memory - TJ Wunschel Scholarship Fund
The TJ Wunschel Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, July 20th, 2007 at Lake Creek Golf Course, Highway 7, Storm Lake, Iowa.

Hosted by the Schaller-Crestland Class of 1992.
Proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship in T.J.'s name.

The event was organized in 2005 by T.J.'s classmates to celebrate his enjoyment of the game, his love of life, and his lasting effect on the lives of so many.

The tournament will be held yearly during Crossraods Days including the 2007 Early Quasquicentennial to allow as many of T.J.'s friends and family members as possible the opportunity to participate.

Yard of the MonthA Yard of the Month committee has been formed with chairman Heidi Pickhinke to give local residents recognition who show pride in the care of their yards and houses.

Yard of the Month Winners


December 2005 Yard of the Month
The first winner was Scott and Jill Corrin who had a lovely Christmas 2005 display at 104 W Main. It had everything from the icicles hanging from the roof to the red bows, train, and Santa with reindeer on the deck. It was fully lighted for nighttime enjoyment.
May Yard of the Month
The residence of Vince and Sue Davis on Linden Lane was selected as May 2006 Yard of the Month. They have a well-cared for lawn landscaped with lovely tulips and flowering shrubs.

June Yard of the Month
The residence of Ed and Phyllis Lenz on 210 West Main was selected as June 2006 Yard of the Month. They have a row of peonies along the south side of the house with hanging baskets of a variety of flowering plants. There are nicely trimmed hedges both in front and behind the house. They have made many improvements to one of Early's older houses.

July Yard of the Month
Matt and Katie Ehrp of 102 Linden Lane were awarded the July 2006 Yard of the Month. They have planted flowers and shrubs along the front of their house.

They have also landscaped the side and back of their house and installed decorative fence.

August Yard of the Month
Dawn and Larry Freese were awarded August 2006 Yard of the Month. Their yard at 215 Hickory has a large variety of flowers and shrubs set in carefully planned plots. Their decorative layout extends from the front through the side and back of their yard.

September Yard of the Month
Al and Jean Liske were awarded September 2006 Yard of the Month. Their yard at 2341 Ira Ave. covers a large area around the house, grove, and outbuildings. They have planted many evergreens, shrubs, assorted plants and flowers surrounded by spacious areas ofSeptember Yard of the Month mowed grass. Their updated buildings have been surrounded with colorful plants and split-rail fencing with flags and other yard decorations.
October Yard of the MonthBill and Carla Bainbridge were awarded
October 2006 Yard of the Month.

Their home is at 205 S. Main. They have decorated for Halloween with a October Yard of the Monthlarge assortment of pumpkins, ghosts, multiple scarecrows, and corn shocks.
At night their
soft-sculptures with internal lights and other lighted objects add a festive touch to the Halloween season.

Christmas 2007 - 1st Place Winner
December Yard of the Month
1st place winner is Bill and Carla Bainbridge at 109 S. Main. Their house is full of lights and lighted soft-sculptures. Their extensive display continues to their large north yard and round back.

Christmas 2007 - 2nd Place Winner

2nd place winner is Randy and Kari Franken at 102 W 4th. They have outlined their house in blinking lights, added several free-standing decorations including a large snowman and lighted tree. The finishing touch of the display is Christmas Music which you can hear when near their yard.

April 2007 Yard of the Month

April 2007 Yard of the MonthHer home at 406 Church Street was decorated for Easter. Lorraine does all her own yard upkeep and says it is something she enjoys doing.

Her large yard is further graced with a lighthouse with has also been decorated with an Easter Bunny.
May 2007 Yard of the Month
Bob and Tonia Toomer won the May 2007 Yard of the Month.

Their house at 304 W 4th has inviting seating surrounded with a large assortment of shrubs, hanging plants and flowers edged with rocks. There are natural-wood birdhouses and trellis within the greenery.

Their landscaping extends around both sides of the house and garage with more benches, trees, flowers, and plants in their spacious back yard.
June 2007 Yard of the MonthEarl and Marlene Larison won the June 2007 Yard of the Month.

Their house at 202 W Main is surrounded by flowerbeds filled with a large assortment of flowers, shrubs, greenery, figurines, and vines enclosed within curved borders.

June 2007 Yard of the MonthTheir ornamental flowers and greenery extend around the sides of the house and into the back yard.

The plants are surrounded with landscaping mulch adding to the overall elegance.
